Let It Rain

Sometimes, you have no other option but to sit through the hardships and tough times.

Sometimes, you have to accept that nothing much is in your hands, and even if it is, some things are destined to go in a certain way. Sometimes, taking an action leads to further complications and the best way out is to keep the patience.

During those times, it is always wise to wait for the storm to pass before you decide to embark on the journey again. When nothing seems to go right in your way, hold on for some more time and let things take their own course.

10 days back my publisher sent me the final copy of Spark & Spice for a last run-through, and I have no idea how I managed to damage the original pdf file which was in-house designed for printing. I cannot begin to tell you how hopeless I felt at that time. And useless too. Add – idiotic and absent-minded to that.

Though, I had saved my Final Manuscript at several places, including mailing it to myself. So, I was able to retrieve the original copy but had to convert it again to MS Word before re-designing was done, leading to jumbled up words and paragraphs and distorted orientation of text at several places. Those who work with documents have a fair idea how the layout and design changes when you convert from pdf to MS Word and vice versa. I was asked to make the corrections in it once again… and I must tell you here that it is big book, 580 pages, and each line, each dialogue is important. I had already done the final check and just before the publishing date, I landed myself in this soup. You can only imagine the tears I had in my eyes when I went through this ordeal. I’ve already edited Spark & Spice, around 6-7 times now, including the new chapters and scenes. And proof read it for more than 5-6 times. All 580 pages.

Calling the revision tough is an understatement.
Many times, I felt like giving up. Many times, I thought I should never write again.

Anyway, after a lot of motivational talk with myself, and lots of prayers, I started again and devoted last week to adding spaces in jumbled words, separating paragraphs and proof reading Spark & Spice all over again.

It caused a delay of 1 week… the draining, exhausting week of Navratri and Dusshera…

It should have been released by next week.

But it takes a few days more.

Please add this instance to the labour of love I’ve done to bring this book to life. Spark and Spice will forever remain close to me for taking my sleep, blood, and sweat… quite literally 😀

Done with that, finally.

I try to reflect on difficult times, only once I get past them. So that –

1.) I don’t trouble anyone by my rants

2.) I sustain the motivation for overcoming the challenge.

3.) I am able to learn from the situation and ready to pass it on.

So, in last week, I learnt that sometimes, you can’t win with circumstances. Your plans will go down the drain, your decisions will wreck over the rock of reality, your schedules will be disrupted and delayed. It can happen any time.

At that time, have patience and keep doing your work. We have no other option.

But to let it rain.

Whatever happened, had to happen. Freaking out, crying, losing your mind and sanity won’t help in any way.

The only thing that will help is staying calm and composed. And continue to work.

The idea behind writing it was to remind myself about it a few years later and keep the lesson fresh in mind. And to pass the message to all of you as well since, like you said each one of us is going through something discouraging that often tempts us to quit.

I felt the same. That it was an exam and maybe God wants to test me. And so, it became easy to go through it.

I really can’t fathom what you would’ve been through last week but the way you pulled yourself togther–trust me its so much inspiring. Hope you’re doing good now di! At one point in time, I was about to give up. But I’m glad I didn’t.
I had planned a lot of things about promoting the book, writing new things but realised that plans may go down the drain, anytime.
But all is well now.
We are good. Fingers crossed for final 2 weeks, hopefully!!
